Spokane Summer Trip Part 3: Driving Home

On Friday morning, we left Spokane.  Mom and dad were so wonderful to give us their old van and it was such a relief to not have to buy one.  Thank you so much!

When we drive, we do our best to have things to look forward to.  We drove to St. Regis the first day (just a couple hours away) where we bought Huckleberry licorice and a Huckleberry shake.  We LOVE huckleberries!

The second day, our big adventures were to Devil's Tower and Mt Rushmore.  Here we are at Devil's Tower.  It was formed by a volcano that was kind of under the ground and then the ground eroded away and left that standing.  Cool, huh?

I love this picture of Kelsey and Steve.  She keeps her firm little grip on him!

Loved these little prairie dogs.  They kept standing up and squeaking at each other.

A few hours, lunch and naps later, we arrived in South Dakota at Mt Rushmore.

It was very cool to be there.

Apparently, Pres Washington's nose is 21 feet tall and his lips are 18 feet wide.

I guess you just can't go to Mt Rushmore without getting ice cream.

On Sunday, we drove through Minnesota where we stopped to see this overly large man that has a skin pigment problem.

The kids were very happy to get out of the car.

We hit rush hour traffic for Chicago before we even got to Illinois.  Great.  One more reason to NOT live in Chciago.  However, the van (which we have named "Belle") got us home safely and we very happily emptied the car before bed time.  What a fantastic trip!
