Diaper Bags
I don't embarrass easily. Really I don't. Often I'll joke around and say "I'm so embarrassed!" but really I just think things are funny.
I was very embarrassed today.
When Joshua was born, we were the newbie parents and doing our best to keep track of how often he ate, when we changed his diapers and we were sure to make it to his doctor's appointment. His first appointment was at 2-3 days old just so the pediatrician could check him and make sure he was doing well. When we got there, we realized that we didn't have his diaper bag which included his diapers, wipes and most importantly, his bottle with food. Since we figured we wouldn't be there too long, we just went on in to the appointment without going back for it. We were in the waiting room for over an hour before they called us back and by then, the poor kid was just wailing because he was so hungry.
We later laughed it off and thought of it as "Oh, we were just so new at being parents that we forgot". Haha its over.
Guess who got to their appointment today without the diaper bag? Not only that, but I actually REMEMBERED to pack the bag as we were laughing about our first parenting experience when we forgot it. Here we are with our 2-year-old son and infant daughter, no diapers, bottles, toys or changes of clothing.
When we were supposed to change her down to a dry diaper to check her weight? No diaper.
When she started fussing because she was hungry? No food.
When she peed ALL over herself and her outfit? No clothes.
I think if I do it with our future third child, I might quit...

Baby Kelsey
Here she is! Kelsey Elise Monson born April 13th weighing 8lbs 14.5oz and measuring 21.5 inches long. She is so beautiful and we are so happy to have her here! We think she looks so much like Joshua but with that adorable feminine twist!
We had kind of an awful experience at the hospital, so I opted to come home early and be with my family. Its so fun to have her in our home!

Lincoln Park Zoo
This past Saturday, we all went to the Lincoln Park Zoo. Its in downtown Chicago and its free! When my friend Emily Tate and I went the Wednesday before, I wasn't really sure what to expect, since it was a free zoo, but we were very pleasantly surprised by the selection of animals and I wanted to take Steve back there.
Here Joshua and I are in front of the flamingos. We decided that they are kind of mean-looking birds!

Although you can't see it all that well, this is a gibbon and she is holding her tiny little baby that was born in January. It was so funny to watch them interact because the baby kept biting the mom and she would just smack it to get it to stop.
The wolves were Steve's favorite part and they really were so beautiful!
This black bear was just inches from Steve through a thick glass.
It was such a fun family outing and we're looking forward to going again!
Just About There!
I found this entertaining. This first picture is when I was pregnant with Joshua. I went into labor this night, so this was as big as I ever got. I believe I measured my waist at 41 inches.
This is me pregnant with baby girl Monson at 39 weeks. My waist is already 44 inches and I haven't delivered yet. I also couldn't help but think "Whoa, people weren't kidding when they say I look like my mom!"
Anyway, 2 days left and then we'll have our little girl!

Monson Update
In March, we got to go down to Columbus to be with the Coons and the Wilsons for a couple of days. Chris and Laura were blessing baby Elizabeth in church and it was so fun to be able to be there. For some reason, we don't actually have pictures of the adults, but we do have some fun pictures of the kids.

And shortly thereafter, he got stuck in the Bumbo himself.
This slide was an absolute hit with just about all the kids. We were pleased to watch Josh as he worked on sharing and taking turns. On the Saturday afternoon we were there, we got to go to an awesome park where everyone had a really great time, including the adults!
For St Patrick's Day, I REALLY wanted to make some kind of green food and green eggs just didn't sound so good. Here are our waffles, although they turned out pretty nasty-looking as well.
That evening, we had our friends Shawn and Emily Tate over for our Leprechaun shakes. Unfortunately, all of those pictures are actually on their camera. They brought over a pizza that had a shamrock made of pepperoni on it and we ate it all while we enjoyed the BYU basketball game. Go Cougars!
Josh has been helping us cook lately.
For my birthday, I awoke to the very nice smell of pancakes and bacon. Steve had arisen early and made pancakes, eggs with fresh mushrooms (SO tasty!), and bacon. It was such a good breakfast!
As I was taking him to work, I convinced him to let me make my own birthday cake so that I'd have something to do while Josh was napping. Here is my 2-tiered cake.
That evening, we tested out a new ice cream place called iCream which brilliantly combines interesting flavors, colors and mix-ins and then freezes them with liquid nitrogen. It was fun! We also went to a restaurant called Qdoba. We enjoyed it all. My main gifts were the game Stone Age and the movie Tangled. It was such a fun day!
Now to a few random things.
This is about what it looks like after Steve gets home from work everyday. He gets down on the floor and wrestles with Joshua for a while until dinner or bedtime. Its always fun for me to see them interact.
Josh loves his 'hat' and wears it whenever he can find it.
His newest thing is to put on our shoes and do his best to walk around. Its adorable!
He's also been enjoying the signing time videos that my mom let us borrow. He's getting so good at them!
General Conference was last weekend and during the second session on Saturday, we were able to sustain our general authorities. Joshua caught on really fast and he kept saying "Again?" after we raised our hand for each sustaining. It made us feel proud. :)

Kissing Owies Better
Today, Joshua discovered that there was one 'owie' that I just wouldn't kiss better. Lately, he has been getting really good at running and kicking his ball across the room and he was practicing quite a bit today. At one point, he misjudged the distance and accidentally stepped on the ball, which threw off his balance and sent him sprawling.
Since I wasn't entirely sure what was injured, I scooped him up in my arms and asked if he had any owies. Promptly, he nodded and stuck out his tongue.
I'm NOT kissing that better.

Baby update!
And there she is! This is me at 35 weeks. I look at pictures and think "Oh, I'm not that big"...and then I look down at my belly and think "I'm HUGE!!" Funny how that works.
Oh, and for some reason, I never remember to take a belly picture until I'm comfortably in my pajamas.
For those of you who don't know, Steve is most likely going to India and Vietnam within a week or two of the baby being born. I am so proud of him for being asked to go on this trip! Its really a big deal that the company wants him traveling so early on! I can't say I'm thrilled about the idea of him being gone so soon after she will be born, but I'm excited for him. He's excited for the responsibilities and for all of the things that he has been learning about!
SO, we've asked the doctors if they would be willing to induce by the due date because of the circumstances and they agreed right away. We will FOR SURE have our baby by April 13th! Wahoo!
Oh, and for some reason, I never remember to take a belly picture until I'm comfortably in my pajamas.

Also, Joshua recently discovered that his favorite books have holes in the covers. He's been enjoying putting them on his arms like bracelets. Clever kid!
Adler Planetarium
Last week, Emily and I took Josh and Brimley to the Adler Planetarium. We had a good time walking around and it made me continue my love of "Free Days"!
Joshua really enjoyed the area for kids and we couldn't get him to stop coming back to this space toilet. This made me appreciate that I don't have to potty train for a little while!

Once we left the kids' area, Josh didn't appreciate being in the stroller. He's getting more inventive as to the ways he tries to get out!

Garfield Park Conservatory
Last Saturday, Joshua, Steve and I visited the nearby Garfield Park Conservatory. Here was our reasoning: free admission, free parking, living things in the dead of winter!
We were rewarded with stunning plants and we enjoyed looking at where they were all from. Steve particularly enjoyed the Polynesian plants and I loved the flower exhibit that they had going on.
Josh liked the flowers too.
Joshua particularly liked the Childrens' Gardens where they had fun little activities such as watering the plants, climbing stairs and sliding down the slide.
